Woah! Interesting Informations [gnun pla un^^] - 11th Week in INTRICT

11th week of INTRICT, our Professor told us informations that I found really interesting.

The first is about the y2k problem that has an effect of everything will go back to zero. It is because that by the year two thousand the start of binary codes will be 00 and that will be a big problem. Sir Oli says that while we were celebrating New Year back in year 2000, all the people in computing industry around the world are all tense because it is the time that if the solutions for the y2k problem developed by each country are okay. Well, thank God Philippines survive the y2k problem.

Next thing is why is all the memory goes with the pattern 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and so on. The only thing I know is that it is 2 raise to one and increment one as it goes bigger, but there is still a reason why is it just like 2 raise to n. The reason is there is only two number and that is ones and zeros, in order to have a bigger memory ones and zeros are doubled so it goes with the pattern 2 raise to n.

Another thing is when Sir Oli trace the history of improvement in technologies, it shows that before the year 2000 the progress is very slow but after year 2000 almost every month there is an improvement in technology. After I realized what Sir Oli is discussing, I consciously asked myself, "Oo nga noh? Putcha bakit gnun?". The reason why is because of the y2k problem. No one would know if things will went right at year 2000 so it's a waste of money in improving technologies that could be destroyed at year 2000. After year 2000, everything went fine so the pace of progress in technologies is fast.

And last is about the internet connection in DLSU. Sir said that if all the internet cable wires were removed, the whole Gokongwei building will collapsed. It is because the Gokongwei bldg. have so many holes for the cable wires, making the cable wires a foundation of the building. Next thing is why is it that the downloading uses the satellite and uploading uses pldt line, and why youtube is prohibted site in DLSU. Satellite are use in downloading becuase La Sallians download more than uploading. Youtube is prohibited because the fee in satellite are very very expensive, so if Youtube is not prohibited that fee will be more expensive and I think that our tuition fee will be 100k per sem(OA ko ata). The very interesting part is the cable used in connecting all the buildings in DLSU to Gokongwei bldg. The cable is as thin as a single hair strand and it uses light instead of electricity. I forgot what it is called, sorry.
