Programming Languages & Dance Number~Make-up Points for -30 -12th Week in INTRICT

Well our last lesson in INTRICT... Programming Languages
Sir Oli told us that we need to know five programming languages. Knowing many languages the better. In learning the different programming languages, it is better to know the first language first and followed by second language and so on.
First Five Programming Language
1.) Java
2.) SQL
3.) .NET
4.) Web Languages
~ Javascript
~ JSP
~ PHP
~ AJAX
~ XML
5.) Mobile Languages
~ J2ME
In five of these programming languages, some will be taught in DLSU and some are can be learned by self studying it. Sir Oli said that it is not difficult to learn different programming languages because almost all programming languages are the same, the only difference is the style on how to type it. It goes this way because all programming languages has the same origin.

Then...

We presented the dance number we prepared in order to compensate for the negative 30 we've got last two weeks ago. Everyone enjoys the performance of every group especially the group of Kreeno and the group of Alvin. After all the performances Sir Oli announced that the final exam will be all multiple choice and we will be given a reviewer for the final exam but he forgot to mention about the negative 30 pts, I hope that the negative points will be deleted.

Woah! Interesting Informations [gnun pla un^^] - 11th Week in INTRICT

11th week of INTRICT, our Professor told us informations that I found really interesting.

The first is about the y2k problem that has an effect of everything will go back to zero. It is because that by the year two thousand the start of binary codes will be 00 and that will be a big problem. Sir Oli says that while we were celebrating New Year back in year 2000, all the people in computing industry around the world are all tense because it is the time that if the solutions for the y2k problem developed by each country are okay. Well, thank God Philippines survive the y2k problem.

Next thing is why is all the memory goes with the pattern 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, and so on. The only thing I know is that it is 2 raise to one and increment one as it goes bigger, but there is still a reason why is it just like 2 raise to n. The reason is there is only two number and that is ones and zeros, in order to have a bigger memory ones and zeros are doubled so it goes with the pattern 2 raise to n.

Another thing is when Sir Oli trace the history of improvement in technologies, it shows that before the year 2000 the progress is very slow but after year 2000 almost every month there is an improvement in technology. After I realized what Sir Oli is discussing, I consciously asked myself, "Oo nga noh? Putcha bakit gnun?". The reason why is because of the y2k problem. No one would know if things will went right at year 2000 so it's a waste of money in improving technologies that could be destroyed at year 2000. After year 2000, everything went fine so the pace of progress in technologies is fast.

And last is about the internet connection in DLSU. Sir said that if all the internet cable wires were removed, the whole Gokongwei building will collapsed. It is because the Gokongwei bldg. have so many holes for the cable wires, making the cable wires a foundation of the building. Next thing is why is it that the downloading uses the satellite and uploading uses pldt line, and why youtube is prohibted site in DLSU. Satellite are use in downloading becuase La Sallians download more than uploading. Youtube is prohibited because the fee in satellite are very very expensive, so if Youtube is not prohibited that fee will be more expensive and I think that our tuition fee will be 100k per sem(OA ko ata). The very interesting part is the cable used in connecting all the buildings in DLSU to Gokongwei bldg. The cable is as thin as a single hair strand and it uses light instead of electricity. I forgot what it is called, sorry.

Awtz! Negative 30 Points - 10th Week in INTRICT

Group activity
Yay!
This is better, I could get higher grade than I'll do it by myself.

Huh?

All got negative 30 pts?

The activity is about extracting the needed data from the resources that Sir Oli gave to us. We should have a detailed report within 5 to 10 minutes in each problem. Another rule is we got a deduction of points whenever we didn't get a correct answer.

That's why...

That's why we got a total of thirty points deduction.

No one in our block answered correctly even one question.^^

Input Devices ~ Automated Voting Machines - 9th Week in INTRICT

At the 9th week in INTRICT, Sir Oli discussed about input devices and presented to us the two automated voting machines that are possible to be used in the next elections in the Philippines. After presening the two automated voting machines by video clips, Sir Oli ask us to evaluate the two and decide which one will we prefer to use in the next elections. These machines are:
Direct Recording Electronic
- a touch screen voting machine that displays the name and picture of the politicians in the screen and the voter will vote by pressing the picture of the politicians they desire and confirm their vote by pressing the vote button.
Advantages
~ After voting, the votes are directly goes to the main system, that makes the vote counting faster.
~ Less Cheating because the system is hard to decrypt.
~ Voting errors such as voting two politicians at one position, and voting a politician in a position which he/she isn't running for, will be prevented because of the system design of the DRE.
Disadvantages
~ DUGYOT factor of the Filipinos.
~ The number of people needs to be voted are to many, so it will take a long time for one voter to finish casting his/her votes.
~ Because DRE is a touchscreen, it will easily broken and the voting will be get delayed.

Optical Mark Recognition
- the voters will be given an optical answer sheet that contains the list of names of the candidates. Voters cast their votes by shading with pencil the circle before the name of the desired candidates. After shading, the optical answer sheet will be given to the official. Voting is until three o'clock in the afternoon and after that it is time to put all the optical answer sheets in the OMR to be scanned.
Advantages
~ Casting votes are faster because each voter could vote simultaneously and submit the accomplished optical answer sheet to the officials.
~ Cost are predictable and defined.
~ Has a capture speed ranging around 4,000 forms per hour.
Disadvantages
~ Cheating is easy here because the officials can erase and replace the vote and replace it with a new one before putting the optical answer sheet in the OMR.
~ More cases of errors because the officials can't check wether there is something wrong in the optical answer sheets.
While we were deciding which one will be used, Sir Oli told us about the factors to consider in choosing an Input Device and these are:
- Accuracy and Correctness
- Completeness
- Speed of Data Capture
- Reliability of the Device
- User-friendliness
- Environmental Applicability
- Disability Considerations
- Cost, Life of the Device
- Hygiene in Use
PS: In every input there should always be an output.

Still Information System and a Group Activity - 7th Week in INTRICT

This week Sir Oli told us more about Information System, specifically why is it needed to be developed and implemented in an organization.
- Internal Improvement

- Internal Correction of Problem

- External Mandate
~ required by law or a demand of customers

- Strategically Determined
~ competition
~ reduction of resource consumption
~ expansion
We also learned how to think critically because of the group activity that Sir Oli gave us. Sir Oli gave us a situation that a Coco Juice business are having a problem and we as a strategic systems analyst must ask questions to the owner to discover what would be the problem in the process of the business.

Information System - 6th Week in INTRICT

On this week in INTRICT, Sir Oli discussed to us what information system is.

Six Elements of an I.S.
1.) Data
2.) People
3.) Software
4.) Hardware
5.) Process
6.) Network

The goal of an Information System is to provide more accurate information anywhere, anytime, needed by the people who works for an organization.

Reasons Why is an Information System Needed to be Developed and Implemented in an Organization
1.) Internal improvement in the conduct of operation
2.) Internal correction of problem
3.) External mandate
4.) Strategically Determined
